DIMCOST was used to assess the risk of depassivation of reinforcement in the concrete cooling tower structure due to carbonation and chloride ingress:
Inspection data was used to evaluate when carbonation or chloride levels will depassivate the reinforcement, initiating corrosion. This way, insights into the timing and likelihood of reinforcement failure based on fib Model Code 34 (Model Code for service life design) calculations was provided.
